Traveling to Albania

The best times of year to visit Albania depend on your preferences and the type of activities you are interested in. Overall, the best times to visit Albania for outdoor activities are in the spring and fall, while the summer is the best time for beach vacations. However, with its mild climate, Albania can be a year-round destination for those looking to explore its rich history and culture.

The visa requirements for traveling to Albania depend on the traveler’s nationality. Albania has a liberal visa policy, and citizens of many countries are allowed to enter Albania visa-free or obtain a visa on arrival. Here is a breakdown of the visa requirements for Albania:

  • Visa-free entry: Citizens of the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and many other countries can enter Albania for up to 90 days without a visa.
  • Visa on arrival: Citizens of some countries that are not eligible for visa-free entry can obtain a visa on arrival at the airport or land border. This includes citizens of China, India, and Russia.
  • Electronic visa: Albania also offers an electronic visa, which can be applied for online before arrival. This is available to citizens of some countries that are not eligible for visa-free entry or visa on arrival.
  • Visa-required entry: Citizens of some countries, such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan, require a visa to enter Albania. These travelers should apply for a visa at an Albanian embassy or consulate before their trip.

It is important to note that visa policies can change, so travelers should check the current requirements before planning their trip. Additionally, all travelers to Albania must have a valid passport and may be required to show proof of onward travel and sufficient funds for their stay.

The local currency of Albania is the Lek (ALL). The exchange rates are subject to fluctuation, so it is important to check the current exchange rate before your trip. ATMs are widely available in Albania, and credit cards are accepted in most larger cities and tourist areas. However, it is always a good idea to carry some cash with you in case you encounter a situation where cards are not accepted.

While the local currency in Albania is the Lek (ALL), some businesses, particularly those in tourist areas or near the borders, may accept euros as a form of payment. However, it is still recommended to have some Lek (ALL) with you, especially for smaller purchases or transactions. Additionally, if you pay in euros, you may receive change in Lek, and the exchange rate used by the merchant may not be favorable. Therefore, it is recommended to check the exchange rate before using euros to pay for goods or services in Albania.

There are several ways to get around Albania, and the best method for you will depend on your budget and travel plans. Here are some of the most popular ways to get around Albania:
  • By car: Renting a car is a great way to explore Albania at your own pace, and there are several international car rental companies available in the major cities. However, be aware that Albanian roads can be narrow and winding, and driving can be challenging, especially in rural areas.
  • By bus: Buses are a popular and affordable way to travel between cities in Albania, with frequent services available. However, buses can be crowded and uncomfortable, especially during peak travel times.
  • By taxi: Taxis are widely available in Albania, and fares are generally reasonable. However, be sure to agree on the fare before getting into the taxi, as some drivers may try to overcharge tourists.
  • With tour operators: Getting around Albania with a tour operator is a popular option for many visitors, especially those who want to see the country’s highlights without worrying about transportation or logistics. Tour operators in Albania offer a variety of services, including guided tours, transportation, and accommodations.
Guided tours can be a great way to explore Albania’s attractions, as experienced guides can provide insight into the history and culture of the country. Tours can be customized to meet your interests and schedule, and can range from a few hours to several days or more.
In addition to guided tours, many tour operators in Albania offer transportation services, including airport transfers and private transportation between cities or attractions. This can be a convenient and stress-free way to get around Albania, especially if you are traveling with a group or have limited time.

Booking a tour

We recommend booking your tour as far in advance as possible to ensure availability, especially if you are planning to travel during peak season or on a popular tour.

For our daily tours, we require a minimum of 24 hours advance booking, while for longer stays we might require a minimum of 7 days advance booking. However, we recommend booking several weeks or even months in advance, especially for private or custom tours.

If you are booking a tour with us during peak season or on a popular tour, we recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance to secure your spot. Keep in mind that some tours may sell out months in advance, so early booking is strongly recommended.

If you are booking a last-minute tour, please contact us to check availability. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but availability may be limited.

Please note that some tours may require a minimum number of participants to operate, and that availability can vary depending on the time of year. We recommend booking early to ensure that you get the tour and departure date that you prefer.

If we need to cancel your tour for any reason, such as due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, we will provide a full refund or offer you the option to reschedule your tour, as appropriate.

Our cancellation policy requires a minimum of 24 hours advance notice for a full refund. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, the total booking fee will be charged.
