We will depart from Berat and drive towards Gjirokastra, another UNESCO heritage site, known as “the stone city”, also hosting a gorgeous castle.
After hotel check-in, our first stop will be at Gjirokastra Castle, also known as the Fortress of Gjirokastra, and is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city of Gjirokastra. The castle dates back to the 12th century and has been an important military fortification for centuries.
Our walking tour continues through the narrow streets of the old city until reaching Skenduli House, a well-preserved example of an Ottoman-era house located in the historic city of Gjirokastra. It is one of the most famous and visited houses in Gjirokastra due to its unique architecture and rich history. Skenduli House has been inhabited by the same family for over 300 years, and the current owners are the ninth generation of Skenduli family.
After finishing our cultural and very enjoyable walking tour, is time for a delicious lunch, serving traditional food based on old recipies of the city.
Afternoon and evening will be free for you. We suggest to spend the evening in the Old Bazaar of Gjirokastra, a wonderful way to experience the city's vibrant atmosphere and unique culture.
The Old Bazaar is known for its traditional crafts and handmade products. You can find shops selling everything from handmade jewelry to hand-woven rugs and traditional Albanian clothing.
